Playing detective (and having fun with video)

We recently posed a challenge to our Blog Frog Community Leaders to explore, play, and learn to love including video on their blogs. Video is quickly becoming one of the most desirable ways for blog readers to engage with content. Its more fun, its a richer experience, and there is so much that can be communicated on video that simply can't be conveyed in writing. And check this out - 78.5% of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video last year. In December alone, nearly 100 million YouTube video viewers (98.9 MM) watched 5.9 billion videos, for an average of 59 videos apiece. People are eating up video.

So I decided to play along. I had a mystery to solve this weekend. Raccoons were somehow getting up on the roof of a small rental house I own and I had to figure out 1) how they were getting up there, and 2) how to prevent it from happening.

The best part was I had a legitimate excuse to climb up on the roof and wander around! While I was up there, I took a video or two of what I discovered.

Mystery solved!

Okay so your voice is not what I expected. I mean I have heard it on the stuff from Blogher09 but it sounded somehow different here. That is cool though a better way to really introduce yourself to your readers! I am going to need to get a video recorder!

I know! I think my voice sounds really weird on that video. I wonder if its because I was out of breath while I was recording (I was up there for about 2 hours and it was much harder work than I thought) and I was a little nervous being so high so maybe my voice was tense.

Way to go Holly! There are some aspects about adding video that concern me. For my blog, many of the women I interview don't want their full identity revealed so that makes it hard to add video. Then two how much prep time is involved. It seems to me if you're going to avoid doing much editing then you have to prepare a rough script and then video it hopefully in one run.

Any thoughts on ideal length for the video?

Hi!
I just started using blog frog as a way to track my blog link list, which is so fun, by the way.
Is there any option to track EVERYONE who reads my blog? Not just those on my link list?
Kinda like site meter?

Thanks a ton!
Jen

You never cease to amaze and inspire me. I must admit I would have been inclined to hire someone to do the work. How cool that you climbed up there and conquered those tree limbs! BTW - I think you sound like a documentary reporter!
